How to create Animations for Cell Phones

Adobe Flash is probably the best tool to design exotic animations for web site and cell phones. While in any web design Flash animation gives the added look, in cell phones Flash-based animations give a new dimension to the user.

For anyone in flash web design in India or elsewhere, the process of development of Flash animation for cell phones is as follows:

• Creating the document using Device Central
• The initial dimensions and the type of cell phone can be selected in the device central. The phone type can be selected from a list of profiles and display size can be set here.
• Illustrator document integration
• Using the option Select file > new document, the Illustrator document is created. The document background, added cropping should be done here.
• Document integration with Flash
• Options like Layers, Symbols, Blends etc. should be set and combined. One should create a symbol here and set the required color and shape.
• Creating blends from symbols
• A second symbol (e.g. a circle) should be created and the two symbols should be blended using Object > Blend > Blend Options.
• Exporting from Illustrator to SWF
• Although, one can import the Illustrator document directly in Flash, for this application it is convenient to convert blends to an animation by simply exporting as SWF.
• Setting the Flash workspace
• A new document should be created with the correct size and Flash Lite settings. Next, the SWF should be imported with all Frame and keyFrame timeline settings.
• Adding a new background
• After timeline settings, a new background should be set using the Properties Panel.
• Copying and pasting from Illustrator
• To add more animation elements, any library symbol from Illustrator can be copied and pasted.
• Setting the motion path and tween
• Using the Add Motion option the motion path should be traced and the Motion Tween should be set using a new keyFrame.
• Previewing and saving
• The animation can now be previewed and finally saved.
